WHWS Family Health Guidelines

Illness Policy

We know how hard it can be to have a sick child at home — so we aim to limit the spread of illness as much as possible in the first place. In order to keep the entire community healthy and minimize disruption in our classrooms, please adhere to the following guidelines.

Symptom or Illness OK to Return to School
Fever (100.4 or greater) and/or signs of illness (chills, muscle or body aches, coughing, congestion, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing) 24 hours after fever resolved and feeling better (fever must be resolved without use of fever reducing medication)
Vomiting or Diarrhea 24 hours after symptom resolved and feeling better
Coughing (new, changed or worsening), congestion or runny nose Once symptoms are controllable and feeling better
Ill and unable to participate in learning When feeling better
Rash and Fever not associated with heat or allergy 24 hours after the fever has resolved and feeling better. Should be evaluated by a health care provider
Strep Throat 24 hours after starting antibiotic treatment, 24 hours after fever resolved, and feeling better
Diagnosed by a health care provider with an infectious illness such as: measles, mumps, chicken pox, pertussis (whooping cough), COVID-19 As directed by public health or your health care provider
Lice, Scabies, Ringworm, Pink Eye Seek medical evaluation and treatment. Students can return after treatment.
