We are so happy that you are considering Whatcom Hills Waldorf School as a possible option for your child's educational journey. We understand that choosing a school is a big decision for a family, and we want to answer any questions you may have so that you feel confident that you are making the right choice.
We have found that when a family believes in the education that they have chosen, their child thrives and in turn, the whole community benefits. At Whatcom Hills we all work together to create the unique experience that supports your child’s social, emotional and academic success. From festivals to plays, and field trips to projects, we work as a community to make the magic happen. It takes a village to raise a child!
It is important to us that we are able to meet a child’s particular needs and so, enrolling with us includes several steps:
You can phone or email to inquire (see below) but you must fill out our Enrollment Inquiry form to begin the process.
2. Tour/Virtual tour
Once we receive your Enrollment Inquiry, we will invite you to come for a tour/virtual tour. These informational sessions will be roughly 1 hour long and will include either an actual or a virtual walk through of our campus with an overview from our Enrollment Coordinator with Q&A. You will see the grounds, classrooms and other spaces. If our tour schedule doesn’t work for you, please let us know and we can make alternate arrangements. We are also happy to have a conversation either by phone or a video chat (see below). You can view our virtual tour video on our website here.
Next step is to complete and submit an online application which will be sent to you on request. We strive for an economically diverse school community. For tuition and financial aid breakdown, please see here.
4. Wait Pool
If a class is full, your application will be placed on file and you will be contacted when a space becomes available. A new application must be filled out for each academic year. Only one fee is required.
5. Previous school records (if applicable)
Any of your child's previous school records will be requested for review.
6. Parent/teacher phone conversation
Once the teacher has received your child’s application and any previous school records, they will be in contact for a short conversation.
7. Teacher/Family visit
The teacher will set up a visit/virtual visit to meet you and your child.
8. Three day class visit (temporarily waived)
Normally your child will have a chance to visit the classroom giving both parties a chance to see if it’s a good fit.
The teacher makes the final decision after careful assessment.
10. Enrollment Deposit
A non-refundable enrollment deposit of $300 secures your child’s spot in the class, and goes towards supply fees. A full breakdown of the tuition and financial aid can be found here.
Your contract is prepared based on your family’s needs.
12. Student Emergency Information Form
This form will be sent to you and must be filled out before the start of school and includes important health information required by the state of Washington.
Your child is now fully enrolled with the school.
14. Trial Period
There is a six weeks probationary period: this gives both parties an important period in which to determine a positive fit for all (understandably, this has become more important during the present COVID-19 situation since we have had to bypass other important enrollment steps). If your family leaves for any reason during this period, you are only responsible for the days attended. After which, you are responsible for the term (there are three terms in the school year).
